The Home of Kat Von D

Home Owner: Kat Von D
Location: Hollywood, California
Home Built By: Unknown

I absolutely love this house inside and out. Kat Von D is known for her gothic style and edgy appearance. Her home is located in the hollywood hills in California. One of the reasons why I was really intrigued by her home was the the spanish style outside but gothic/ morbid look of the inside. between the dim lighting and deep colors, I almost feel a sense of calm looking at her home. The staircase, pillars, as well as the chandelier added class to the design so there was still value to the home The fact she was able to incorporate two completely different styles in one home was a great idea. Ironically enough, mexican culture does embrace the gothic style as one of their popular trends. Kudos to Kat Von D!

Jo Ansell Sculptures

Author : Jo Ansell
Hampton Flower Court Show
2010

This art is in the form of sculptures.

Ansell used ceramic to create the pieces. Her detailing is very vague but it would take away from the ideas it was detailed.

She used various sculptures of almost the same women with different variations in characteristics. She seems to have also used different face shapes on each piece. One thing the sculptures have in common are their shoulders. They are broad, however, They are curved in a way where they fall perfectly into the silhouette.

When I first came across this picture it me of not only myself, but the definition of what being a woman is. I noticed the exaggerated curves that the sculptures have. I am not a small woman. I love my curves and how my body can be correlated to a winding road. My perception of the message she was trying to put forward was the elements of femininity. By looking at the sculptures you can see passion, poise, strength, sexuality, and emotions. I also noticed the eyes. She incorporated the shape of almonds for the form of the eyes. It's ironic because the shape of eyes are very similar. I almost imagined silk being wrapped around each figure. I really enjoyed her pieces due to the fact that this is art you rarely see.
