Author : Jo Ansell
Hampton Flower Court Show
2010
This art is in the form of sculptures.
Ansell used ceramic to create the pieces. Her detailing is very vague but it would take away from the ideas it was detailed.
She used various sculptures of almost the same women with different variations in characteristics. She seems to have also used different face shapes on each piece. One thing the sculptures have in common are their shoulders. They are broad, however, They are curved in a way where they fall perfectly into the silhouette.
When I first came across this picture it me of not only myself, but the definition of what being a woman is. I noticed the exaggerated curves that the sculptures have. I am not a small woman. I love my curves and how my body can be correlated to a winding road. My perception of the message she was trying to put forward was the elements of femininity. By looking at the sculptures you can see passion, poise, strength, sexuality, and emotions. I also noticed the eyes. She incorporated the shape of almonds for the form of the eyes. It's ironic because the shape of eyes are very similar. I almost imagined silk being wrapped around each figure. I really enjoyed her pieces due to the fact that this is art you rarely see.
